First agroforestry farm- Egypt

Nectaerra designed the first agroforestry plot in Egypt at Sekem Farm part of Sekem Group and provided continuous agricultural support during the cultivation period between the year 2021 and 2023. The agroforestry field consists of a wide variety of trees, shrubs and annual crops, including cover crops . The system is expected to become largely self-sufficient through improved soil fertility and stronger healthy plants, reducing the need for artificial inputs for fertilization and chemical protection.
Nectaerra was a technical consultancy partner in the PRIMA project collaborating with a consortium of universities from the EU, particularly in Italy and Spain, as well as institutions in North Africa, specifically in Egypt and Tunisia. The primary objective of the group was to study agroforestry and mixed farming systems to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental challenges such as drought and soil degradation.

Nectaerra employs a holistic and science-driven methodology to design, implement technical work, tailored to enhance ecosystem resilience and agricultural productivity. The process begins with site-specific assessments, including soil analysis, climate data, and water availability studies. Based on these insights, diverse plant species are selected to create synergies between trees, shrubs, and crops, fostering biodiversity and efficient resource use. Nectaerra integrates traditional knowledge with modern agroecological practices to optimize land use, improve soil health, and conserve water resources.
By engaging local communities and providing training, Nectaerra ensures sustainable management and long-term benefits for both farmers and the environment.
